James D'Amelio Obituary

James “Jim” D’Amelio, 92, of Ellicott City, Maryland, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, following heart complications.

Born and raised in Malden, Massachusetts, Jim was the son of Mary and James R. D’Amelio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 68 years, Lillian D’Amelio; and his sisters, Lucille (Louis) Iacono and Antoinette (Bill) Clark.

Jim is survived by his three devoted daughters, Luane (Will) TormaschyDebra Lichtenberg, and Lois (Joe) Blevins, each of whom made him immensely proud. He also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren — Cliff Tormaschy, Erin Lichtenberg, Daniel Lichtenberg, Maria Kolling, Ross Lichtenberg, Rachel Knox, and Colin Blevins — along with eight adored great-grandchildren and many treasured relatives and friends.

Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After completing his military service, he began his professional career as an auditor with the Internal Revenue Service in California. His commitment to public service soon led him to the United States Secret Service, where he would spend more than 26 distinguished years.

Joining the Secret Service in 1959, Jim served as a Special Agent in the New York Field Office, where throughout his career he conducted undercover investigations, participated in international counterfeit operations, and carried out numerous high-profile protective assignments spanning the presidential administrations of John F. Kennedy through Ronald Reagan.

Throughout his tenure, Jim held several leadership roles — including ATSAIC, ASAIC, and SAIC — in the Boston, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and New York Field Offices. He also held key positions at Secret Service headquarters in Washington, D.C., serving as an Assistant Deputy Director.

Following his retirement from the Secret Service in 1985, Jim continued to share his expertise as Vice President of Security for MasterCard International in New York City, a role he held for more than 11 years.

Jim will be remembered for his deep loyalty to family and friends, his integrity and humility, and his lifelong commitment to service.

He cherished the many friendships he formed during his three decades of retirement in Jupiter, Florida, where he enjoyed life to the fullest.
