JAMES CHARLES HOECK of Ellicott City, MD passed peacefully on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. He was the devoted husband of Patricia G. Hoeck; loving father of Beth Hoeck and Kathy Gounaris (Jason); and proud Pop-Pop of Will and Erin.
Jim was born in Baltimore and graduated from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1949 and Loyola College in 1954. After serving in the Army for two years, he earned a law degree from the University of Baltimore. Jim spent most of his career with the Internal Revenue Service, retiring after 33 years of service. He and Pat were married in 1964, raised two daughters, and enjoyed almost 57 years of marriage in their Ellicott City home.
Jim was an avid golfer, first playing on the public courses around Baltimore, across Europe while in the Army, with the Mount Hebron neighborhood league, and at Willow Springs Golf Course in Ellicott City, where he also worked as a ranger and starter during his retirement. He enjoyed spending time in Ocean City and served for many years as Treasurer of the Sea Haven condominium. Jim also loved gardening and following the Baltimore Orioles, Colts, and Ravens. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Church in Ellicott City.
A memorial service is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Evergreen Annual Fund at Loyola University, Maryland.
