James McAllister, III Obituary

James William McAllister, III, age 83, of Ellicott City, MD, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2021, surrounded by loved ones, after a difficult battle with metastatic prostate cancer.

James was born on January 8, 1938, to James William McAllister, Jr. and Elena R. Heppard of Philadelphia, PA.  After James graduated from Audubon High School in 1956, he pursued degrees in Electrical Engineering at The Johns Hopkins University (B.E.S. ’60) followed by master’s degrees at George Washington University (M.S.E. ’71) and The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health (M.P.H. ‘84).

After attaining his bachelor’s degree, James began his career as a Medical Engineer at Bendix Radio Division.  He subsequently worked as an Engineer for Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Aerospace Division.  James rounded-out his distinguished career working as a Health Scientist Administrator and Computer Scientist for the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Service for over 30 years.

James met his future wife, Marjorie Lynne Mohr, in high school, and they married on April 1, 1961.  James and Marjorie went on to have two children, Gregory Richard of Algodones, NM, and Terry Lynne of Elkridge, MD.

Once retired, James had time to pursue his love of golf, travel, investing, and spending time with his family.  One of James’ biggest accomplishments & sources of tremendous joy was being a father, grandfather & great grandfather.

James was predeceased by his parents and his sister Patricia M. Nelsen.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie McAllister, son Gregory (David, Kyle), daughter Terry (Darrick), grandchildren Blake, Jake, Anthony, Kevin, Britney, Zoe, Vanessa, Michael, Zian, Tristan and great grandchildren J.J., Raelynn, Xylina, and Aidan.

In remembrance of James, the family will hold a private graveside ceremony at a future date.
