Born on Christmas Day 1934 in Baltimore, MD, Jerry lived a wonderfully full life of almost 90 years, marked by his dedication to his family, his service to his community & country, and his passion for life.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marie, his sister Jeane Neuman, his son Michael J. Neuman and daughter-in-law Frances, his son-in-law John Seburn, his daughter Marianne N. Phelan, and his son Mark A. Neuman and daughter-in-law Samantha. He proudly enjoyed his ten grandchildren: Jessica, Michael Jr., Linsey, Laura, Andrew, Megan, Matthew, Kathryn, Scott, and Carolyn. Jerry was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Skyler, Brooks, Fiona, and Milo. Jerry was preceded in death by his daughter Michele Seburn.
Jerry's early years were spent in his hometown of Baltimore where he attended Mount Saint Joseph High School, and then Loyola College where he earned a BS in Political Science in 1956. After college, he enlisted in the US Navy, proudly serving aboard the USS Macon.
After his naval service, Jerry married Marie Moser in 1959 and started a family. They moved to Ellicott City, Maryland in 1966 where they successfully raised their four children. Jerry embarked on a rewarding career in the banking industry with Fairview Federal Savings and Loan. In 1982 he transitioned to the Burney Company of Falls Church, Virginia, as an investment manager.
In his later years, Jerry and Marie founded their antique business, Treasure Trove, Ltd. This business was a shared adventure, as the couple traveled to antique shows and maintained a presence at the Savage Mill Antique Center for over thirty years.
Jerry was a man of many interests. He enjoyed keeping up with the latest computer advances. He was an avid runner, a member of the Howard County Striders, and also enjoyed biking, golfing, and surf fishing. He loved attending Navy football games and any parades featuring a marching band. Jerry and Marie shared a love for travel, often combining European sightseeing with the hunt for unique antiques to add to their business collection. He also enjoyed many annual crab feasts, birthday celebrations, and family reunions at the beach with his growing family.
Jerry was also an active parishioner at the Church of the Resurrection parish in Ellicott City. His involvement with the Knights of Columbus, participation in church fundraisers, and volunteer work with St. Vincent DePaul allowed him to touch the lives of many through his service.
Jerry's legacy is one of generosity, service, and dedication to his family, friends, and community. He was always interested in talking personally with people to keep in touch with their lives. As we bid farewell to Jerome Carroll Neuman, we celebrate a life that was truly meaningful and full of passion.
