Joan Tintle Obituary

Joan Schenk of Ellicott City, MD  passed to Jesus and Mary on Tuesday February 18th, 2025 at the age of 91 after a battle with ovarian cancer.  Joan was born on December 30th 1933 to parents Joseph and Lola Waldele in Newark, NJ. After graduating from Columbia High School she went on to study Business Administration and earned a two year Associates Degree. After graduation she worked in business and advertising until her wedding to Jim Schenk Sr in 1958. They had four children, Jimmy, Peter, Doug, and Mary.

Joan was an avid golfer all her adult life and became very active in the Catholic Church. In 1972 at the age of 39 Joan had an encounter with Jesus in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. She was invited to a charismatic prayer meeting by two friends, Pat Finnegan and Sandy Barr. As Joan attended these meetings week after week she continued to encounter Jesus. Then one day on a golf course, as was apropos, she completely gave herself to Jesus. This would change the course of Joan’s life, our family’s life, her friend’s lives,  and the life of anyone she everyone met. Soon after her husband, Jim, also joined the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.  She and husband Jim began the St Louis Parish Prayer Meeting in the late 1970’s which still is active today. Joan also helped start the Women’s Bible Study at St Louis Church which is in Clarksville, MD.  Joan’s faith in Jesus and Mary along with her children and their families were the most important parts of her life.

Joan is survived by her husband David Tintle and his family,  and her four children from her first marriage to Jim Schenk Sr:  Jimmy Schenk and his wife Peggy Schenk and three grandsons to Joan Jamie, Joe, and Tom & his fiancé Katherine Bartlett; Peter Schenk and his wife Lori and their three grandsons to Joan;  Matt Schenk and his wife Kate and great granddaughter Chloe; PJ Schenk and his wife Kelsey and their two great grandsons Tripp and Tucker; and Timmy and his fiancé Emily Cummings; Doug Schenk and Joan’s three grandsons Nick, Jackson, and Doug Jr and his wife Christine and Joan’s great grandson Mason.

Joan was predeceased by her first husband Jim in 1993 and her brother Bob in 2013.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Little Sisters of the Poor in Catonsville, MD.
