John "Jack" Edward Benzing of Ellicott City died on September 19, 2021 after a battle with Alzheimer’s. Jack was born on December 28, 1930 to George and Elizabeth Benzing in Baltimore City. After graduating from Patterson High School in 1950, he attended Loyola College on a basketball scholarship to study Business, graduating in 1954. After retiring from Lockheed Martin, he worked as Executive Director for the Electric League of Maryland.
In 1957, he met Arlene (his Honey) and they were married in 1958. They had three children, daughters Nancy and Joyce and son Michael, who died as an infant. When his grandsons, Jonathan and Michael were born, he was always available to "babysit" and it wouldn’t be uncommon to find him asleep on the couch and the boys playing. Jack enjoyed traveling, especially to the islands, summer family vacations at the Outer Banks, bowling, and golf. He took great pride in his vegetable garden, having won several ribbons at the Howard County Fair. There were, of course, his scratch-offs and trips to the casino with his reluctant son-in-law Keith.
Jack liked to "home project" and thank God, Keith would help finish the job with the proper tools. He always looked forward to Tuesday mornings at the diner with the Geezers, where they would reminisce about the good ol’ days.
Jack was predeceased by his parents George and Elizabeth Benzing, brothers George, James, Robert, Donald, and William and sister Margaret DeFrancisco, and his infant son Michael. Jack was extremely proud of his family. He loved his church and singing the hymns at Mass, sometimes making up his own words. He was a humble, kind, considerate, and generous man. He loved his family and friends and would not want anyone to be sad.
