John Garofolo, 97, passed away on December 28, 2019 from natural causes after a stroke. John was loved by many, including the customers he served as an automobile service director, fans of his beautiful guitar playing, his family, and as a beloved friend to everyone he encountered in his life. John was the leader of the band, “The Suburbanites”, an avid boater and fisherman, an active member of his community and bocce champion, and a proud WW-II veteran. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 66 years, Lorraine, his dear children, John, Tina, and Jeanie, his loving son-in-law, James, his grandchildren, Matthew and Morgan, his great-grandchildren, Autumn and Andi, and his adoring sister, Angie.
Family will receive friends at the Harry H. Witzke’s Family Funeral Home, 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, MD on Friday, January 3 from 4-7pm.
A Mass of Christian burial will be said at St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Catholic Church (http://www.stalchurch.org/) at 10800 Old Court Road, Woodstock, MD at 11am on January 4, immediately followed by a burial ceremony at Gate of Heaven Cemetery (https://ccaw.org/gate-of-heaven-cemetery) at 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, John’s loved ones make donations to the Gilchrist Howard County Hospice Center (https://www.gilchristcares.org/) at 6339 Cedar Lane, Columbia, MD 21036 that took wonderful loving care of John and his family in his last days, or to the St. Alphonsus Building the Future Capital Campaign.
