John J. Libertini Jr., loving husband of 48 years to Cheryl Libertini, died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Lorien Encore in Ellicott City, MD.
John was born on May 31, 1943 to John Joseph Libertini, Sr. and Mary “Harriet” Libertini of Perry Hall, MD, now both deceased. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Ritchey (Gladding) and his son-in-law Paul Ritchey, his daughter Carmen Johnson (Gladding) and his son-in-law Tom Johnson. He also leaves behind his brother Ken, and wife Nancy, and brother Mark, and wife Janet. John was a devoted grandfather to Charles Ritchey, Catherine Duncan (Ritchey), Zachary Johnson and Liam Johnson.
John graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in Baltimore, MD with the class of 1961. After serving in the army for two years, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1971. He started his professional career as a draftsman for Bendix and then worked as a systems analyst at Saint Agnes Hospital, where he met his wife. He subsequently enjoyed a long career of 27 years at McCormick & Company, in Baltimore, starting as a systems analyst and holding several management positions before retirement.
John cherished his role as husband, father and grandfather. He will be remembered for his deep love for his family, kindness, patience and dry sense of humor.
John was an avid sports collector, and a long-time fan of the Orioles and Ravens. His family will always have fond memories of the laughter they shared playing games together. While home, John often immersed himself in an old movie or researching his ancestry. For many years, John and Cheryl enjoyed being snowbirds in Florida, visiting the Disney parks, enjoying live theater, and playing golf with friends. Favorite trips included cruises, national parks and Skyline Drive.
