John Reuben Puffenberger, 79, of Dayton, MD, passed away on December 19,2021.
John was born on July 8, 1942 to Curtis and Ada Puffenberger in Jessup. He graduated from Howard High School in 1960.
After graduation, he entered the Army and served in Vietnam. He was a member of the 25th Infantry AKA The Wolfhounds. In the book See the Dragon, the author describes John this way "In Oahu, Hawaii, I met John Puffenberger, one of the best guys in the world... John was as kind a man that I ever met and I soon acquired a great respect for him."
After his service to our country, he worked as a contractor building houses. He helped to build some of the first homes in what is now Columbia.
John enjoyed hunting and later fishing with his buddies. He also collected old cars, trucks and many many other "treasures". He lived on his parents farm in Columbia until 1993 when he moved to Dayton, where he met and spent time with his many friends locally.
He is survived by his sister Grace Bathgate, nephew Bruce Bathgate, niece Sandra Jackson and great nephew Anthony (AJ) Jackson. Johns was predeceased by his parents Curtis and Ada Puffenberger.
