John “Bill” William Sites, Jr., 90, husband of Joan Sites of 60 years, passed away on June 11, 2022, at his home in Ellicott City, MD. Born June 9, 1932, in Fairfield, PA and raised on Mount Hope, he was the son of the late John William and Daisy Currens Sites.
Bill graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1950 and joined the United States Navy. Following his service as an aircrewman and mechanic on Navy seaplanes from 1951-1955, he enrolled in Shippensburg State College earning a bachelor’s degree in Education in 1958.
Bill relocated to Baltimore, MD in 1959 and pursued a career in education. He taught Business Administration, Accounting and Typing at Catonsville Senior High School for 24 years.
Bill was a family man who loved coaching and watching his sons and grandchildren play lacrosse, basketball, soccer, and baseball. His hobbies included his lawn, fishing, poker, and enjoying an occasional Manhattan. Bill was an avid and passionate fan of his local Maryland sports teams to include the Orioles, Ravens (Colts), Terps and Navy Midshipmen.
He is survived by his sons, Charles W. Sites and his wife Suzanne of Glenelg, MD and Robert J. Sites and his wife Amber of Woodstock, MD; grandchildren Christopher, Kate, Megan, Madison, Brooke, and Natalie; sisters Lorraine Wilt (Carroll), and the late Faye Slusser (Kermit) and the late Nina Herring (Fred). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family will receive friends at the Harry H. Witzke’s Family Funeral Home, 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, on Thursday, June 16, 2022, from 5 – 7pm and on Friday, June 17, 2022, from 12:30 – 1:30pm; where a funeral service will begin at 1:30pm. Interment services following at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
