Joseph Leonard Ciampa, Sr., loving husband, father and brother passed away Sunday, March 22, 2020.
He was born on April 29, 1938 to Joseph Ciampa and Eugenia Hayden in Washington, DC. He graduated from Woodward Prep School in Washington, DC. Soon after graduation, Joe went to work at the Central Intelligence Agency (NPIC) while also serving as military police in the Army National Reserve for six years. He retired from the CIA after 35 years of dedicated service and was awarded by President John F. Kennedy for his help during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. After retirement, Joe enjoyed woodworking and yardwork at his home in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. Although he lived other places, Deep Creek Lake held a special place in his heart. Many family memories were made in their lake house.
He is survived by his sister: MaryJo McGraw; four children: Joe Ciampa Jr. (Mary, his wife), Beth Roberts (Richard, her husband), Lauretta Ciampa, and Chris Ciampa (Julie, his wife); and his nine grandchildren: Christina Ciampa, Nathan Marsden, Alyssa Sandoval, Keri Sandoval, Marie Sandoval, Joel Sandoval, Jennifer Roberts, Richard Roberts, and Amanda Roberts
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty, his sister Jean Petrie, and his two children Vincent Ciampa and Suzanne Worthington.
A private celebration will be held on Thursday, March 26th, 2020 at the Harry H. Witzke’s Family Funeral Home, 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, MD, 21043.
