Joyce Frances Nash

June 24, 1932 ~ August 15, 2023 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Obituary

Joyce Frances Nash (Tolle), a cherished wife, sister, mother, aunt, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 91 on August 15, 2023. Born on June 24, 1932, in Oletha, KS, she grew up in Kansas City, MO and moved to Maryland in 1962 eventually settling in what is now Columbia. Joyce was pre-deceased by her mother Cleopatra J. Pindel (Barthol), her father Frank E. Tolle, and her brother Jerry E. Tolle. Joyce lived a long life, filled with family, love, faith, and kindness.

Joyce married the late John A. Nash on September 29, 1956, and together they had three children: Patrick J. Nash, Maureen C. Nash, and Margaret M. Hunt (Nash). She will be held in loving memory by her sister Sister Joan Tolle, CSJ, son Patrick and spouse Karen Nash (Hutter), daughter Maureen and spouse Anne Perretta, daughter Margaret and spouse Steven and grandchildren Paige and Jason. In addition to Joyce’s numerous extended family members, she will be missed by her many friends in the Catholic Daughters Charity, Knights of Columbus, St. Louis Church, and Allview Retreat ASL communities.

Joyce graduated from Lillis High School in 1949 and from Benedictine College in 1954, traveled throughout Europe after college, worked as a Social Worker, raised her children with loving care, volunteered at St. Louis School every opportunity that was offered, was the Treasurer of the Howard County Right to Life, ran the Atholton Cleaners at the Atholton Shopping Center for 20+ years, belonged to several bridge clubs, was an avid bingo player, loved watching all sports on TV and took care of so many family and friends in any way needed over the years.

Later in life, when she became a grandmother, she spent as much of her time as she could with her grandchildren and always with a camera in hand to capture every moment she spent with them. After a hip replacement in 2020, she moved to Allview Retreat where she continued her lifelong calling and looked out for the other residents to the best of her abilities.

In memory of Joyce, we celebrate a long life well-lived, a woman respected, looked up to and well-loved as a cherished friend, and a legacy of paying it forward that will continue to touch lives for generations to come. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched.

Family will receive friends at Harry H. Witzke's Family Funeral Home, 4112 Old Columbia Pike in Ellicott City on Monday, August 28 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm.
