Katherine Hutchins Obituary

Katherine “Kay” Hutchins, born on April 14, 1929, in Syracuse, New York, daughter of Felice and Rosina D'Allessandro, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2026, in Baltimore, Maryland, of natural causes, shortly after celebrating her 97th birthday.

Family was the center of Kay’s life. She was the beloved wife of Keller Bruce Hutchins, who passed away in 2021. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Michele, and son-in-law, Michael Bucolo. Kay is survived by her sons, Michael and Mark, and their spouses, Barbara Millard and Maria Hutchins. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jason, Travis, Emily, Nick, Katlynn, Marina, Mark Jr., Joshua, and Carter, and great-grandchildren Julian, Sonny, Keller, Rita, Hendrix, Hayes, and Hailey. She was a loving godmother to Rosanne Green and Bonnie Dalessandro and a dear friend to many people including Angelina Inzinna, Nancy Parella (deceased), and Kay Noboa (deceased), friends for over seven decades. Kay was also the last surviving member of her immediate family, which included her brothers, John and Vince Dalessandro, and their wives, Victoria and Emily.

Kay was a devoted homemaker whose greatest work was the care and nurturing of her house and family. She also worked in the Sears Catalog Department for many years, where she was known for her reliability and kind manner. After retiring from Sears, Kay and Bruce travelled the country and spent summers enjoying life in their trailer on Chincoteague Island. When her husband Bruce became sight impaired, Kay cared and supported him through their senior years, even after surviving mantel cell lymphoma herself in the early 2000’s. Kay was also a loyal Orioles fan, watching games whenever possible.

Kay found happiness in the simple and beautiful things. She expressed her love through her hospitality, compassion, and other thoughtful ways she cared for others. She never missed a birthday or special occasion for someone, even in her later years. Those who knew Kay will remember her as a woman of deep affection, strength, and enduring spirit. She had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and loved. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and devotion that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved her.

Though she is missed, her memory remains a source of comfort and inspiration to those who were fortunate enough to know her as Kay, Mom, Granny, or Aunt Katie. Her family and friends can take solace in the years and events they shared with her and in the lasting imprint she made on their lives.

Appreciate and enjoy every day !
