Born on September 17, 1924, in Biloxi, MI, the lone son (with four sisters Shirley, Muriel, Joyce and Margaret) of Herman Rush and Sofie Keller Hutchins. In October 1941 on his 17th birthday, Keller proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, serving three years in World War II mostly on the USS Saratoga, and later, an additional year with the United States Army. In 1954 in Syracuse NY, he married Katherine Dalessandro and fathered three children: Michael, Michele and Mark.
Bruce worked as a self-taught certified engineer and later as a project manager for such companies as General Electric and Westinghouse and served over 10 years in the Federal Government with the US Corp of Engineers and later with the General Services Administration. He and his family lived in various locations including Syracuse NY, Ottawa, Canada, Des Moines IA, Buffalo NY, and lastly, in Ellicott City MD. Bruce and Kay have spent the last two years in the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville, MD.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife Katherine and sons Michael (Barbara) and Mark (Maria); and cherished by his grandchildren Jason, Travis, Emily, Nick, Katlynn, Marina, Mark Jr, Joshua, and Carter; and his great grandchildren Julian, Sonny, Keller, Rita, Hendrix, and Hailey. Bruce was predeceased by his daughter Michele and her husband Michael, both of whom are dearly missed.
Due to the current pandemic situation across the county and out of concern for everyone's safety, the family has decided to postpone the church service and conduct only a graveside ceremony with immediate family on January 5, 2022, at noon at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens located at 2150 Mt View Rd, Marriottsville, MD 21104. We do ask that all attendees wear a mask. A memorial service will be announced at a later time when health and weather conditions allow. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Keller Bruce’s honor to the Ellicott City VFW Post 7472, the Veterans Administration who supported dad throughout his life, or St. Jude's.
