In Loving Memory of Kimi Cissel Johnson
Kimi Cissel Johnson passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at the age of 88. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Kimi was the eldest child of Willis and Eleanor Cissel. She was raised on the family farm in Woodbine, MD, alongside her beloved siblings, Lambert Cissel of Woodbine, MD, and Cathy Erdman of Temple, ME.
After earning her nursing degree, Kimi married her true love, James T. Johnson (Jim). Together, they shared 67 beautiful years of marriage and made their home in Ellicott City, MD, where they lived for 51 years.
Kimi is survived by her devoted husband, Jim, and their five cherished children: Mark Johnson (Louisville, CO), Kathleen Barner (Gaithersburg, MD), Michael Johnson (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), Barbara Burdett (Woodstock, MD), and Patrick Johnson (Roswell, GA). She also leaves behind thirteen treasured grandchildren and nine adored great-grandchildren.
Kimi found her greatest joy in the company of family. To the many family members who sought her guidance, Kimi’s warmth, unwavering loyalty, and faith-based outlook provided compassionate yet firm counsel. She particularly enjoyed preparing meals with love, reading, and attending Mass at the Church of the Resurrection. Kimi’s infectious laughter, deep faith, and enduring devotion to family will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Kimi was deeply committed to serving others by restoring dignity and hope to those in need. She actively supported organizations such as the Helping Up Mission, Prison Ministry, Gabriel Project for pregnant women in need, and Catholic Charities. She lived by the guiding words of John Wesley:
“Do all the good you can … as long as ever you can.”
