Lillian Mahoney died peacefully and entered heaven on December 22, 2021. Born September 22, 1925, in Springdale, Pennsylvania to Clyde and Minnie Peck, she was the fourth of six children.
She met John Francis Mahoney when he was on leave from the Navy, and they were married on June 22, 1945. During their 56-year marriage they had four children while living in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Maryland. Lillian was a patient, loving, supportive mother. John and “Lily” loved to dance and go out with friends doing most of their vacationing in Cape Cod and Ocean City. A day did not go by without hearing Lillian say, “OH JOHN!” when he would make a typically Irish wisecrack. John preceded her in death on August 11, 2001.
Lillian had a strong Catholic faith attending Mass often on a daily basis rounding off the morning at McDonald’s with her favorite - a chocolate chip cookie. She loved her children and their families but was happy being a center of the home, having no desire to travel afar.
The family would gather together for holidays. It was always a special treat to enter the warmth of the home at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and savor the aromas of turkey stuffing, and her famous penuche cake.
She loved working at the HCT Credit Union and as she aged, she enjoyed the company of many friends at the Howard County/Miller Library Senior Center especially on pizza and bingo night.
She is survived by her children, John, Jane, Patricia and Jackie; grandchildren, Michael Mahoney, Meredith Mahoney, Erin Dawson, Mark Davis and John Patrick Aaron.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Paul's Catholic Church on December, 29, 2021, at 11:00am. Interment following at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens.
