Louis John Schott, age 102, of Marriottsville, Maryland passed away on July 10, 2023 after a brief illness.
Born in Atlantic City, New Jersey to Louis and Anna Schott and the youngest of eight children, he graduated from LaSalle University, joined the US Marine Corps and was commissioned an infantry officer in 1943. He served as a rifle Platoon Leader in the battle of Peleliu in 1944. Wounded in action, he was medically evacuated where he recovered from his wounds and was sent back into action. As a rifle company commander in the battle of Okinawa, 1945, he was awarded the Silver Star medal for gallantry in combat against enemy forces. After the war, he joined the Marine Corps Reserve where he served until his retirement at the rank of Colonel. As a civilian he worked as a management analyst for the Social Security Administration and retired in 1977. In his later years Colonel Schott was very active in Howard County military organizations.
He was the beloved husband of his late wife Regina M. Schott; loving father of Eileen Yaeger and her husband Michael, Patricia Turner and her husband Daniel (deceased), Debra Hinds, Lauren Tyler and her husband Bruce and Lois Beglan and her husband Joseph; devoted grandfather of Matthew Turner, Peter Yaeger, Christopher Hinds, Stephen Yaeger, Lindsey Williams, Paul Turner, Rebecca Wilson, Katelyn Tyler, Joshua Beglan and Alexander Beglan; great grandfather of Adam Turner, Jake Turner, Kyle Williams, Kory Williams, Max Yaeger, Naomi Turner, Archie Goff, Lillian Wilson and Thomas Yaeger.
Family and friends are invited to call at Harry WITZKE FUNERAL HOME 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, MD 21043 Sunday, July 16, 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church, 12500 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville MD, 21029 Monday July 17 at 10:00 AM.
