Mack Northey Ezzell, aged 75, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2024, in Columbia, Maryland. Born on September 13, 1948, in the historic city of Kyoto, Japan, Mack's life was a vibrant tapestry of dedication, humor, and kindness that touched the hearts of all who knew him. Growing up in a military family, Mack moved around often, which would instill a penchant for travel and a constant curiosity that would carry on throughout his life. Mack suffered from the effects of polio as a child, but like everything in his life, Mack turned this into a positive. He often relied on the help of others, but never took that help for granted, even committing the names of servers and kind strangers to memory.
A steadfast Baha'i, Mack's faith was central to his life. His commitment to the principles of unity and service led him to pioneer to Guam, where he spent 35 years contributing to the growth and development of the Baha'i community. In his final months, Mack declared that he was happy with his life because he was a Baha'i.
Mack is survived by his darling wife, Tatsuyo, who was a constant source of support and partnership. His daughter, Edna, carries on his interest in reading and curiosity about the world. His granddaughter, June, might even be confused for a younger Mack in the right light.
Those who knew Mack will remember him for his optimistic outlook on life. His ability to find humor in the everyday, often through his love of puns, was legendary. Mack's friendly demeanor and his genuine interest in others made him a beloved figure in his community and beyond. Mack's interests extended beyond his faith and family. He was an avid reader, with an insatiable curiosity that kept him engaged with the world around him. His friends and family will miss the lively discussions and the warmth of his company. Mack certainly would have wished to give all those who touched his life a great deal of thanks and appreciation.
As we bid farewell to Mack Northey Ezzell, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and joy. He was a beacon of optimism, a source of laughter, and a friend to all. His legacy of friendship, faith, and family will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Mack's memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories and memories shared by those who loved him.
