Margaret ‘Peggy’ B. Ecker, passed away peacefully of natural causes on May 16, 2025, in Columbia, MD at the age of 94.
Peggy's journey began in Sykesville, MD where she was born on September 9, 1930 and grew up. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Casey and RoseMarie Groff.
Her life was a testament to the power of education, as she pursued and attained a Bachelor of Science from Western Maryland College, now known as McDaniel College. Her passion for education and physical health led her to a rewarding career as a Physical Education teacher in the Carroll County and Prince Georges County School Systems.
In her personal life, Peggy was the heart of her family. She was married to the late Dr. Charles I Ecker for 63 years with whom she shared a lifetime of love and companionship. Together, they raised a family that grew to include sons, daughters-in-laws, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Peggy's interests were as varied as they were passionate. She had a profound love for antiques, a hobby that allowed her to connect with history and the stories of the past. Her mind was kept sharp with the challenge of puzzles and her spirit was regularly lifted by the triumphs and trials of her beloved Orioles. She was also an avid gardener and loved growing flowers. Above all, Peggy's greatest joy and pride were her family, whom she loved dearly.
Peggy's legacy lives on through her children: Charles Daniel Ecker and partner Kay Eyler and Donald Thomas Ecker and spouse Pamela Ann Ecker. Dan’s children include: Brett Ecker and spouse Sara Ecker, with children Daniel, Ella, Luke, and Elizabeth; Ryan Ecker and partner Dan Warner; Megan Carper and spouse Mark Carper, with children Troy and Jordon; Kevin Ecker and fiancé Marialania, with child Furio; Sean Ecker; Ally Ecker Fees and spouse Connor Fees; Casey Ecker; Danny Ecker; and Jackie Ecker. Don’s children include: Michael Brooks Ecker and spouse Rachel Preloh Ecker and their daughter Lennon Dorothy Ecker; and Steven Thomas Ecker.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, May 22nd from 5-7pm at HARRY H. WITZKE’S FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, MD 21043. A Graveside Service on Friday, May 23rd at 11am at Meadow Branch Cemetery in Westminster, MD.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peggy's memory to Gilchrist Center of Howard County or to The Arc of Howard County.
