On November 9, 2023, Margaret "Margy" Rappaport passed away peacefully after a 10+ year battle with dementia. Born in Baltimore on April 9, 1935, Margy resided in Ellicott City for most of her life. Margy was the beloved wife of the late Paul Rappaport, loving mother to Leslie Rosenthal (Jay) and Amy OShea (Rick). Margy is also survived by her daughter-in-law Rosanne Shoemaker, granddaughter Sarah Quattlebaum (Brian), great-granddaughter Elizabeth "Eli", her sister Willette Blalock (OT) and nieces Kim Haynes and Karen Booth, as well as many friends. Margy was preceded in death by her son, Glenn Shoemaker and granddaughters Ashley Rosenthal and Elizabeth Shoemaker.
Margy was an elementary school teacher in Anne Arundel and Howard Counties before getting into politics, winning her first election as a Judge of the Orphans Court and 6 elections as Clerk of the Circuit Court in Howard County, where she served for 22 years. Margy loved shopping, gardening, antiquing, politics, philanthropic activities and most of all, family and friends. Margy will be dearly missed, although she hasn't been "Margy" for many years as the ravages of advanced dementia destroyed her mind and her body.
A graveside service will be held at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, 2150 Mt. View Rd, Marriottsville, MD, 21104 on Monday, November 13, 2023, at 1:00 pm.
