Margot Hoffman graduated from Valley Stream Central High School in 1953. A longtime resident of Valley Stream, NY, Margot worked at Jamaica Savings Bank as a bank teller and in the safe deposit section. In her life, Margot visited all 50 states and also traveled fairly often to Germany, France, Italy, and other European countries. Margot was an avid knitter; she knitted sweaters, caps, scarves, and blankets for countless family members and friends throughout her life; she also knitted to benefit local charities and nonprofit organizations. Margot and husband Adolph, a 100% disabled World War II veteran, spent many years volunteering at various veterans’ hospitals in the New York City area. Both were also very active in Eastern Star, an organization in which Margot received the rank of Grand Matron in the late 1980s. After retirement, Margot and her husband Adolph relocated to Columbia, Maryland in 2004 in order to live closer to her son Fred and granddaughter Colleen. After relocating to Maryland, Margot became an active member of the congregation at St. John Lutheran Church, attending regularly and participating in the bell choir. After suffering a debilitating stroke in 2022, Margot was able to continue living at home thanks to the exceptional care and attention provided to her by Liana Gabunia, her live-in caregiver.
Margot is survived by her son, Fred Paul Hoffman, daughter-in-law Lana Finn Jacoby, and grandchildren Colleen Theresa Hoffman, Philip George Jacoby, and Oksana Jacoby-Hoffman. In the coming weeks, Margot will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband Adolph at Arlington National Cemetery.
