Marian Ruth Demchak (nee McCubbin) passed away on August 13, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 89 years-old. Born in Baltimore to parents William and Emma McCubbin (nee Shelton), Marian grew up in the Baltimore neighborhood of Highlandtown and attended Patterson Park High School. She married Daniel Spath in 1957 and their daughter Kimberly was born in 1963. In 1967, they moved to a new home in the Mt. Hebron neighborhood of Ellicott City. Dan and Marian later divorced and Marian married Donald Demchak in 1983. Through that marriage she gained four stepchildren (Michael, Anthony, Bridget, and Amy) who became siblings to Kimberly. The Demchaks resided in Catonsville, MD until Don’s death from cancer in 1996. Marian then moved back to Ellicott City, where she was an active member of Mt. Hebron Presbyterian Church.
Marian worked as a bank teller for over 35 years. She enjoyed square dancing, traveling, playing bingo, cooking, baking, and singing in her church choir. She also enjoyed musical theater and often attended shows in which her daughter Kimberly played guitar in the orchestra, most notably at Toby’s Dinner Theater in Columbia, MD. She kept an immaculate home and also had several pet cats throughout her life. In 2016, Marian was diagnosed with dementia, later determined to be Alzheimer’s disease. She spent her final years at Lighthouse Senior Living in Ellicott City where her children were frequent visitors.
Marian was pre-deceased by her parents, her brothers Charlie and Melvin McCubbin, her first husband Daniel, and her second husband Don. She is survived by her children Kimberly (Linda), Michael (Colleen), Anthony, Bridget (Billy), and Amy (Scott), and by her grandchildren Billy Jr., Christian, Sean, Ben, Sydney, Ava, and Brooke, as well as several nieces and nephews.
