Marilyn Ann Miceli, 76, of Columbia, MD passed away on Saturday November 8th, 2025, after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer.
Marilyn was born in Manhattan on September 10th, 1949, to parents Frank and Ann Miceli. After graduating from Pompton Lakes High School in 1967, she went on to study teaching at Lycoming College in Pennsylvania. She married classmate Charles “Chip” Kauffman in 1971. She then got her master’s from the University of California. The young couple lived in Germany until 1980 when they moved back to the States and settled in Columbia, Maryland. They went on to have two children, Jason and Adam. The couple divorced in 1992.
Marilyn spent most of her time supporting her sons, especially through volunteering with Special Olympics Howard County, of which Marilyn was the Assistant Director for nearly 30 years. Her work continues to positively impact hundreds of athletes to this day.
Marilyn retired in 2012 after a long career as an analyst with the National Security Agency. She continued to volunteer with Special Olympics Howard County and enjoyed occasionally volunteering at the Shrine of Saint Anthony in Ellicott City.
She is survived by brother Carl Miceli and sister-in-law Pat Miceli, sister Denise Violand and brother-in-law Ron “Rink” Violand, longtime companion Jack Kuhn, sons Jason and Adam Kauffman, daughter-in-law Rena Kauffman, and grandsons Theodore, Gabriel, and Ezra Kauffman.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Special Olympics Howard County.
