Marilynn Blanche Powell died peacefully in her sleep at age 83 on Wednesday morning, January 13, 2021, at the Gilchrist Center in Columbia, MD.
She is predeceased by her parents, Weldon and Blanche Wood, and by her brother Albert Wood. She is survived by her husband, Hugh Powell; her brothers Chancy and Donny Wood; her three children, Ronald, Gerald Lee, and Wesley Powell; and her three grandchildren, Jessica, Brooke, and David.
Marilynn graduated from Takoma Adventist Academy with the class of 1955 and remained close friends over the next 65 years with her fellow classmates.
She was a founding member of the Hyattsville Seventh-day Adventist Church, and she served in many roles supporting and nurturing her beloved church until she fell gravely ill.
Marilynn fell asleep in Jesus far too soon, but she left us with many happy memories of her as a loving wife, a dear sister, a devoted mother, and a caring grandmother. We know that many will remember her as a cherished friend.
Throughout her life, Marilynn’s faith guided her, and she held firmly unto Jesus to the very end. Her family is drawing on that faith as a source of strength during this difficult time.
The family will be holding a private graveside ceremony. A memorial service for Marilynn will be planned when the current COVID-19 pandemic subsides.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Hyattsville Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4905 42nd Pl, Hyattsville, MD 20781.
