On Tuesday November 19, 2024 Mary Frances Lowman, wife of the late Charles Joseph Lowman Jr., of Ellicott City MD passed away peacefully. She had recently celebrated her 95th birthday with 40 friends and family members.
Mary Frances was born on November 1st, 1929 to Lewis and Frances Ellis in Baltimore. After graduating from Seton High School in 1947, she went on to study physical education at the University of Maryland in College Park. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1951 she worked at Garrison Junior High School as a physical education teacher.
Mary Frances met Chuck in 1951 and they were wed in 1953. They had 5 children - Jane Carol Seymer (Francis), Charles Joseph Lowman III (Tammy), Patricia Louise Lyle (Philip), John Patrick Lowman (Kimberly), Theresa Ann DelCoco (Robert). Mary Frances had 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her three brothers – Lewis Ellis, Robert Ellis, and J. Paul Ellis.
Mary Frances travelled the world with her army officer husband. They lived in Germany, Canada, Arizona, and Virginia before finally settling in Ellicott City Maryland to raise their children. She was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, and surrogate mother to anyone in need. She enjoyed cooking, baking and entertaining. She also loved sports. She loved her Orioles and Terps. She could tell you, and often did, each player’s stats and the teams’ records. But mostly she cherished her time with family and always greeted everyone with a friendly smile and home cooked goodies.
While she was kind and friendly she was also fierce and capable. When her husband was deployed to Vietnam, she raised five kids on her own. She lived independently, in her own house, for 17 years after her husband’s death until she passed.
Mary Frances and her family were very active in their parishes – St. Alphonsus in Woodstock and then, after moving to Highland MD, St Louis in Clarksville.
In Liu of flowers donations may be made in Mary Frances name to the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR).
