Mary Frances Evert Obituary

Mary Frances Evert, affectionately known as Mary Fran, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024, in Columbia, Maryland. Born on July 31, 1944, in Nashville, Tennessee, Mary Fran lived a full and vibrant life, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.

Mary Fran was the beloved wife of George W. Evert III, with whom she shared a loving and enduring marriage. Together, they raised a family that was the center of her world. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Christina (Gary) Hataway and Jennifer (Sean) Evert-Brown. Mary Fran's joy was multiplied with the addition of her cherished grandchildren, Kyle, Kailin, Lauren, and Scott, who will miss their grandmother's warmth and wisdom.

An alumna of the University of Maryland, Mary Fran earned her Bachelor of Science before advancing her education at Loyola College Baltimore, where she received her Master of Education. Her passion for learning and her commitment to education were hallmarks of her character and were evident in her professional and personal life.

Mary Fran's interests were a reflection of her zest for life and her love of social connection. She was an enthusiastic player of Bridge and Mahjong, enjoying the camaraderie and challenge they brought. Her friends, with whom she shared countless hours at the card table, will remember her for her sharp mind and ready laughter.

Family was the cornerstone of Mary Fran's life, and she relished every moment spent with them. Her grandchildren were a particular source of joy, and she deeply enjoyed attending their various activities and milestones. With her husband, George, she was a frequent spectator at Orioles games, sharing in the thrill of the sport and the companionship it fostered.

Mary Fran and George also found great pleasure in antiquing, each item they discovered together carrying memories of shared adventures. Their home at Deep Creek Lake was a haven for relaxation and family gatherings, while trips to the beach allowed Mary Fran the simple pleasure of dipping her toes in the sand, a pastime she loved.

As a grand hostess, Mary Fran's hospitality was unmatched. Her home was a welcoming space where friends and family gathered to celebrate life's moments, both big and small. Her grace, charm, and attention to detail made every event she hosted a memorable one.

Mary Fran's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the enduring bonds of family and friendship. She navigated life with grace, resilience, and a sense of humor that endeared her to all. Her presence will be profoundly missed, but the memories she created will continue to inspire and comfort those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

In her passing, Mary Fran leaves behind a legacy of love, the importance of family, and the value of a life well-lived. Her spirit will forever be a guiding light to her family, and the lessons she imparted will live on through the generations. Mary Fran Evert's story is not one of goodbye, but one of gratitude for the time spent with a remarkable woman whose life was a testament to the beauty of human connection.
