She was born July 7, 1926 and grew up in Irvington. Prior to her graduation from Seton High School, June met the love of her life, Elmer Andrew Cisna. After he enlisted in the Marine Corp they eloped and were secretly married on January 2, 1944, just before he left to serve his country for the next two years. A marriage that began with great distance became one of extreme closeness and love. Although her life was at times filled with incredible sorrow, she always found comfort and joy in family, faith, and friends.
As a young wife and mother, June quickly established herself as an indispensable part of any situation. Often volunteered by her husband and children, she stepped into many roles including chaperone, den mother, baker, bookkeeper, treasurer, and any other role she was asked to take up.
Alongside her husband, Andy, June spent 35 years involved in square dancing. What she thought was just going to be a good time dancing with her husband, evolved into organizing and planning dances and weekend retreats. Although she was often in charge of food and drinks for many events, the annual retreat to Cacapon State Park was one that was dear to her heart. Those 25 years of weekend retreats at Cacapon were filled with fun, laughter, games, and of course square dancing. As part of the square-dancing world, both Andy and June established many lifelong friendships that endured until their deaths.
While raising her own family, June also lovingly cared for elderly members of her family and community, believing that you take care of others out of love and not duty.
June was a devout and deeply religious woman. Her unwavering faith grounded her, comforted her, and guided her throughout her life. As a member of St. Augustine Church, June attended church daily. She was actively involved in the Sodality and was a Eucharistic minister, bringing communion to those who were housebound and unable to attend mass.
A life of 99 years, well lived. Heaven has gained an angel.
