Michael Penny Obituary

Michael Monroe Penny, Sr., age 81, died in his home in Halethorpe, Maryland on March 29, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Mike was born and raised in Battle Creek, Michigan, with many summers spent at Sherman Lake. Mike went on to serve in the Navy for several years.  While stationed at Camp LeJeune, he met the love of his life and his wife of 59 years, Glenda Church of Swansboro, North Carolina. Upon an honorable discharge from the Navy as a medical corpsman, Mike began a long career in the retail food industry, beginning as a stock clerk and rising to manager of the local grocery store in Dover, Pennsylvania and then to a sales career with food brokerages that ultimately led to a move to Columbia, Maryland and ended with a management position at Wechsler Coffee Distributorship.

Mike enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, and old cars. Mike pursued his love of God on a regular basis by showing non-judgmental love for all he met. A constant recipient of Mike’s unconditional love was his spouse, children, and his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Glenda; their daughter, Cynthia D. Penny-Ardinger and her husband Douglas Ardinger of Ellicott City, Maryland; their son, Michael Monroe Penny, II and his wife Jennifer Penny of Fort Mills, South Carolina; and seven grandchildren, Joshua Penny, Alexandra Ardinger Morgan, Samantha Ardinger, Erica Ardinger, Jackson Penny, Anna Penny, and Chandler Penny. The family will be honoring Mike’s life with a memorial service at a later date.
