Mildred Loomis Obituary

Mildred T. Loomis, widow of Richard E. Loomis, passed away at Howard County Hospital in Columbia, MD, after an acute illness.

Mildred was born on Oct. 27, 1927 and was the daughter of Henry Clay Thompson and Mary C. Miller of Baltimore, MD now deceased. Mildred graduated from Western High School in 1944 and due to her academic achievements, she graduated a year ahead of her class, a significant accomplishment of which she was always very proud.

Following High School, Mildred assisted with the family business, known as H.C. Thompson Wholesale Fruit and Produce in Baltimore, MD. She then went to work for WFBR radio station and was responsible for setting up the daily news and broadcasts. Mildred loved this job and enjoyed being surrounded by all of the radio station hosts and co-workers.

In 1949 Mildred married Richard and their first child, a daughter, was born in 1959. At this time, Mildred stopped working to stay at home and be a great mother to her daughter and eventually a son who was born in 1964.

Mildred was an excellent seamstress and made almost all of her own clothes, as well as clothes for her children. She was a long-time parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection and volunteered for many activities with her children over the years.

After her children were grown, Mildred followed her sewing passion and accepted a job at G Street Fabrics in Rockville, MD. She continued to make beautiful clothes for herself and was often asked to model and display them at the store. She eventually became a manager at G Street Fabrics before leaving after 20+ years to enjoy retirement with her husband.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Susan, her son, Steven and daughter-in-law Mary; grandchildren Adam, Alexis, Emma and Joe; and great grandchildren Brooks and Fallon.
