Norman Lee Hoffheiser, Jr. of Columbia, Maryland, and formerly Ellicott City, Maryland, passed away July 21, 2020 at the age of 85.
He was born on February 16, 1935 to Norman L. Hoffheiser, Sr. and Margaret Roethlingshofer in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a proud high school graduate of City College, Class of 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 - 1963, and later earned a business degree from Baltimore College of Commerce. He retired from Baltimore Gas & Electric Co. after 38 years of service.
Norm's priorities in life were faith, family and serving others. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church of Ellicott City for 20 years, he played on the BG&E softball and bowling teams, and you could find him working or relaxing (mostly relaxing) outside on any given weekend. He was also a beloved volunteer Bingo caller at Lorien Nursing Home for 22 years, and most recently resided on that campus at Lorien Harmony Hall with his wife, Edie, until his death. He was known by all as a gentle giant, and his fun-loving spirit was infectious.
Norm is survived by wife of 50 years, Edith A. Hoffheiser; his children, Beth Tennant (Philip), N. Lee Hoffheiser, III (Amy) and Indira Rodrigo (Renuka); nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Hoffheiser (Marlene); and many family members and friends who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Hilditch, and step-mother, Bertha Hoffheiser.
All Services are private.
Memorial donations may be made to Alice Lloyd College (www.alc.edu), a school Norm got to know and he supported their mission whole-heartedly, or Gilchrist Hospice (www.gilchristcares.org).
