Oliver Smith Weaver III, affectionately known as Ollie, passed away surrounded by family on October 3, 2024, in Randallstown, MD, at the age of 71 after courageously battling a long illness. Born on November 17, 1952, in Washington, DC, Ollie grew into a man of integrity and warmth, forging a life filled with joy, dedication, and the love of a close-knit family.
Ollie is survived by a family that adored him, including his beloved wife of 47 years Linda; his sons Kris (Lindsey) and Rob (Sara); his treasured grandchildren Rylin, Brooks, Tilman, Brody, and Dillon; his parents Robert and Margaret Houck; his sisters Debbie Zook (Sid), Vicki Fritzke (Norman), and Karen Owens (Jimmie); his brother-in law Dave Ray (Rose); his sisters-in-law Pat Dowsett (Vaughn) and Judy Hughes (Eddie); and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his in-laws Sam and Anna Ray; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Larry and Mary Lou Ray. Each family member reflects a piece of Ollie's spirit, his kindness, and his boundless love.
Ollie's early years were spent in the halls of Laurel High School, where he cultivated friendships and a sense of community that would last a lifetime. After graduation, he embarked on a career with FedEx that spanned almost four decades. Known for his unfailing reliability, Ollie was recognized as a Safe Driver for 30 years+, a testament to his professionalism and commitment to safety. His attention to detail and meticulous knack for organization was lauded by his coworkers and resulted in several leadership roles.
Beyond his work, Ollie's life was rich with passions and pursuits. He reveled in the role of coach, instilling in young athletes the values of teamwork and perseverance. The lessons he offered spanned beyond the field as his players often became part of his extended family. A sports enthusiast through and through, Ollie could often be found cheering on his favorite teams - the Redskins, Terps and Yankees - living and dying with every play. Retirement afforded Ollie the opportunity to indulge in one of his greatest pleasures: golfing. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the course and the challenge of the game. Perhaps his greatest title, though, was PopPop. Ollie cherished time with his grandchildren and could often be found rooting for them from the sidelines of sporting events or watching them intently from the audience at school functions. Being with his family brought Ollie the most joy.
Ollie's life was one of connection and impact, touching the lives of everyone he met with his wry humor and generous heart. His absence will be felt deeply by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Ollie, we celebrate a life well-lived on October 10, 2024 at 12 pm @ St. John The Evangelist Roman Catholic Church (Columbia, MD).
