Patricia Genevieve Hoeck

PATRICIA GENEVIEVE HOECK of Ellicott City, MD passed peacefully on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. She was the devoted wife of the late James (Jim) C. Hoeck; loving mother of Beth Hoeck and Kathy Gounaris (Jason); and proud Grammy of Will and Erin. 

Pat was born and raised in Catonsville, attended St. Mark Catholic School, and graduated from the Institute of Notre Dame in 1951.  After graduation, she began work at the C&P Telephone Company, where she served as a manager for 17 years until the birth of her first child.  She and Jim were married in 1964, raised two daughters, and enjoyed almost 57 years of marriage in their Ellicott City home. 

Pat was an avid bridge player with a group of longtime friends. They enjoyed playing with her because of her smart instincts and fabulous memory.   Over the years, she participated in a community bowling league, volunteered at her children’s many school and sporting events, and was a devoted grandmother, taking care of her grandchildren often in their early years.  Pat enjoyed the holidays and never failed to make them special for her family.  Her home, gardens, and Ocean City condominium were sources of tremendous joy and pride, and she loved taking meticulous care of them.  She enjoyed travelling and counted Bermuda and Ireland among her favorite places.  Pat faithfully followed her favorite college basketball teams, tennis matches, golf tournaments, and the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Church in Ellicott City. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 9, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Ellicott City.  Interment services are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church or Gilchrist Center – Howard County
