Patricia Lee Mitchell, known affectionately as Pat by her loved ones, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on August 31, 2024, in Woodstock, MD. Born on February 18, 1936, in Baltimore, MD, Pat's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to her family and friends, a legacy of love that will continue to flourish in the hearts of those she touched.
Pat graduated from Milford Mill High School in 1954, embodying the spirit of kindness and generosity from a young age. Her life was a testament to the roles she cherished deeply—she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, a dear sister and sister-in-law, and a friend "extraordinaire."
Her family was her world, and she was the matriarch that bound them together with warmth and grace. Pat was predeceased by her beloved husband, Howard Mitchell, Jr. She is survived by her brother Larry and wife Jane, Children, Howard E. (Chip) Mitchell III and his wife Susan, Kirk A. Mitchell, and Donna M. Hennessy. Her legacy includes her grandchildren, Kris and wife Jessica, Matthew and wife Krista, Nicholas and wife Missa, Mark and wife Jennifer, Jason and wife Shannon, Michael and wife Katie, Patrick with fiancée Casey, and Emilee; as well as her adored great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Ethan, Ryan, Dylan, Sophie, Will, Justin, Jacob, Josie Mae, Ben, Waylon and her many nieces and nephews.
Pat's life was filled with the joy of simple pleasures. She relished in hosting family dinners, an expression of her love through her delicious cooking and baking. Her grandchildren fondly remember the times spent with her, whether it was going to the movies, enjoying a slice of pizza, or visiting their favorite spots. Pat's interests extended to playing cards with her friends, watching "Judge Judy," and spending time with her family.
Her selfless nature was evident in everything she did. Pat was the silent strength of her family, a thoughtful listener, and a shoulder to lean on. Her loving guidance and presence were a constant source of comfort and happiness to those around her.
A quote that encapsulates Pat's approach to life comes from Mother Teresa, "Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier." Pat lived by these words, always welcoming everyone into their home. A stranger always left as a friend.
Patricia Lee Mitchell's life was a beautiful illustration of what it means to put others before oneself. Her enduring love and selfless acts of kindness have left an indelible mark on the lives of her family and friends. As they continue to walk the paths of their lives, they do so with the lessons of love, compassion, and generosity that Pat instilled in them.
The world was indeed a better place because Pat was in it, and her spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. Though she has departed from this earthly realm, the echoes of her love will resonate forever.
As we bid farewell to Patricia Lee Mitchell, we celebrate the extraordinary life she led and the countless ways in which she made our world a brighter, more loving place. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love will forever be cherished and honored by all who knew her.
