A recent resident of Howard County, Pauline "Polly" N. Marshall peacefully passed away at her assisted living facility in Columbia, Maryland, at the age of 96. She is survived by her children Nancy (Kathy), Terrell (Joan), Susan (James), and John (Myrna), as well as her grandchildren (Caroline, Katie, John, and Emma) and great grandchild Shamus.
Born and raised in Lynn, Massachusetts, she graduated from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised a family in Rutledge, Pennsylvania. Following her divorce, she worked for 30 years at Swarthmore College Library and retired from there in 1996. She was an active member of Springfield Baptist Church and enjoyed volunteering at Green Lake Conference Center, Wisconsin, in her retirement years. She also enjoyed visiting her children and grandchildren and traveling to Hong Kong, England, and the Caribbean. When no longer able to travel or read, Polly discovered the joys of listening to classical music and audiobooks on her Alexa, and sharing life stories with visitors.
In lieu of flowers, Polly's family asks that you donate to, or volunteer at, an organization of your choice. Polly's goal for her life was to do good in the world and we'd like to honor her memory by paying it forward.
