Philip G. Asid

Lt. Colonel Philip George Asid passed early Tuesday morning, September 17, 2024, at Howard County General Hospital after a brief hospitalization. He is predeceased by beloved wife Shirley Asid, daughter Teresa Asid-Oechsler, son (Zaidan) Stephen Asid, grandson Noah Francis Asid, and brother Edward Asid. He is survived by daughter Bethany Martin, grandson Ryan Oechsler, sister Mary Jean Delvasto, brother William Asid, sons-in-law Tim Oechsler and Damien Martin, and many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.  

Phil was born in West Haven, CT to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Mary Asid. He spent 21 years in the Air Force, stationed across the United States and internationally in Iceland, Greece, Iran, and Germany. He also spent a year in Saigon, Vietnam for which he received one Bronze Star for a special operations mission against an opposing force, and a second Bronze Star (First Oak Leaf Cluster) for Meritorious Service.  After retirement from the Air Force, Phil then joined Westinghouse Defense and Electronic (later Northrup Grumman) at their Hunt Valley and BWI locations before spending the rest of his career as Vice President of International Marketing in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Turkey, and Kuwait. 

Phil retired in 1999 to Charles Town, WVA and to his Ellicott City home, of which community he’d been a part of since 1987.  Family was his greatest priority in life, and in his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his dearest wife, Shirley, his children, grandsons, and dearest relatives and friends.  He loved to fish, trade stocks, play catch with his grandsons, watch Westerns, and travel especially to visit family in Connecticut and North Carolina.  He had a fond appreciation for good food, and art, and considered himself an amateur artist in his photography and wood printing.  He took great joy in nature and astronomy and would spend days and evenings with family looking at his garden, birds and the stars.  His love, kindness and sense of humor never wavered, nor did his faith as a long-standing member of Church of the Resurrection parish.  He will be sorely missed by all those who survive him. 

The family will receive friends at the Church of the Resurrection - Chapel, Ellicott City, on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 10 – 11am; where Military Honors and Mass will begin at 11am. Interment will be in St. Louis Cemetery on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 10am. A memorial mass and reception will be scheduled in Connecticut at a time to be determined.
