Phyllis Brown Obituary

Phyllis Elizabeth Brown (nee Craig), age 93, passed peacefully on the morning of September 15th, surrounded by family at Howard County General Hospital. Phyllis was born on September 25th, 1927 in Cass, West Virginia to the late Nellie and Bill Craig. In her youth, she attended school on the tribal lands of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians in North Carolina and was an enrolled member of the tribe. She moved to Daniels, Maryland in 1943 where she met her husband, the late Donald S. Brown. The two were married on July 22nd, 1944. Phyllis was employed by C.R. Daniels Inc. during her entire 47 year career. There she worked in the sewing room, helped run the restaurant, and later assembled parts for military aircraft.
Phyllis was a devout congregant of Gary Memorial United Methodist Church in Daniels and its oldest living member until her passing. She was active for many years in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Hope Rebekah Lodge #3 of Granite, Maryland. A deeply caring and thoughtful woman, Phyllis read her Bible daily, keeping family, friends, and strangers in her prayers. She had a fondness for cats and flowers, feeding her favorite hound dogs, and watching for cardinals at her feeder. Known for her stylish dress and to have never missed a hair appointment, she will be remembered for her kind nature and generous heart.
She is survived by her son, Donnie L. Brown and wife, Jeannie, of Ellicott City, her daughter, Victoria Goodman (nee Brown, Hastings) and husband, Tom, of Catonsville, her grandchildren, Donna Brown, Donnie E. Brown and wife Michele, Jason Hastings and wife Stephanie, Casey Goodman and wife Amanda, Kate Brown (nee Goodman) and husband Brian, and Riley Goodman. In addition she is survived by her great-grandchildren, CJ Brown, Ethan Brown, Rowan Hastings, and Graceyn Brown, and her step great-grandchildren, Jane and TC Goodman, and Brody, Hadley, and Cooper Brown. She is predeceased by her sister, Jerelene Iobbi (nee Craig) and great-grandson Conner Brown.
