Priscilla Dumschott Hutchinson, a loving wife and mother, and retired employee of Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University, and the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, passed away peacefully with family around her on April 12 at Howard County General Hospital. Born on September 24, 1934, the long-time Ellicott City resident was 87 years old.
The daughter of Fredrick William Dumschott of Chestertown, Maryland and Miriam Shriver Dumschott of Cambridge, Maryland, Mrs. Hutchinson was born and raised in Chestertown, Maryland.
After graduating from Washington College, she moved to Boston to attend the Katie Gibbs Secretarial School and later moved to New York City, where she worked in the medical school at Columbia University. During this period, she traveled with friends by car around the US. In 1961, she moved to Baltimore to work at Johns Hopkins University. There she met her husband of 54 years, Frank W. Hutchinson of Greensburg, PA. They moved to Howard County, where they raised their three children. In 2016, they moved to the Lutheran Village at Miller's Grant senior living community in Ellicott City, where they found a caring and supportive environment of friends. She enjoyed socializing with family and friends, knitting, reading, and listening to audiobooks. For over 50 years, she was a member of the Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church in Ellicott City, Maryland.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy J. Carter of Glenelg, Maryland and Carol A. Brooke of Falls Church, Virginia; a son, Paul L. Hutchinson, of New Orleans, Louisiana; seven grandchildren – Brendan, Ryan and Shawn Carter; Ethan and Anna Hutchinson; and Libby and Miriam Brooke; and two sons-in-law Mark Carter and Tom Brooke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in 2018.
A Celebration of Life for Priscilla's family and friends who are vaccinated and boosted will be held Thursday, April 21 at 1:30 PM at the Lutheran Village at Miller's Grant.
