Ralph Albano Obituary

Ralph Anthony Albano passed away unexpectedly on June 18, 2025, in Columbia, Maryland, at the age of 62 due to complications from cancer. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Christine Jenkins Albano, and three children, Amy Albano, Kevin Albano (Karina Faust) and Molly Albano.

Ralph was born on December 30, 1962, in Springfield, Massachusetts, and raised in nearby Agawam where he was the oldest of five children. He is survived by siblings Thomas Albano (Joanne Ashby), John Albano (Barbara Walsh), Donna O'Malley (Patrick) and Sandra Albano.

Ralph graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Catholic University, playing on the baseball team during his undergraduate years. He later earned a Master of Engineering in Applied and Engineering Physics from Cornell University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Maryland.

Ralph began his career at Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Linthicum, Maryland, as a Principal Process Engineer. He took this knowledge into technology commercialization during his tenure at the National Technology Transfer Center in Alexandria, Virginia. He then became Manager of Business Development and Strategic Alliances at Axcelis Technologies in Rockville, Maryland. For the past 23 years, Ralph served as the Vice Provost for Sponsored Research, Research Compliance, and Technology Transfer at Catholic University in Washington, DC.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ralph was an avid sports enthusiast. He played baseball in an over 30 league, well beyond 30. His love for sports also extended to the golf course, where he enjoyed playing rounds with friends and family. He was also a dedicated fan of the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Capitals.

Ralph was a true family man, assisting with any activity in which his children were involved. He devoted many years to coaching baseball, basketball and soccer. He also sat on community boards including Savage Boys & Girls Club and Hammond High School Boosters. Where there was a need, he was happy to assist.

As we remember Ralph, we celebrate the life of a man who was not only accomplished in his professional endeavors but also valued the simple pleasures in life. His legacy is one of love, kindness, and commitment to those around him. Ralph will be profoundly missed, but the memories he created with all who had the privilege of knowing him will forever be cherished.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Community Action Council of Howard County (https://cac-hc.org/) or Hammond High School Boosters (https://hammond-high-school-boosters-inc.square.site/).
