Richard Henggeler Obituary

Richard 'Dick' Henggeler, 73, husband of Eibhlin Henggeler, passed away on October 7, 2025, at his home in Marriottsville, Maryland, surrounded by family after an extended illness.

Dick was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Col. Francis and Dorothy Henggeler, both deceased. He is survived by his three brothers: Col. William Henggeler (Cheryl), John Henggeler (Janice), and Joseph Henggeler.

After graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 1975, he earned a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Boston University.

In 1976, Dick met Eibhlin in Dallas, Texas. They soon married and went on to have three children: Franz, Treasa, and Dorothy. He lived and worked in Texas and England before moving to Maryland, where he founded Henggeler Consulting in 1996.

Dick served as the historian and archivist for the 388th Bomb Group for over thirty years. His father, Col. Francis Henggeler, flew B-17s with the 388th under the 8th Air Force. Dick’s unwavering dedication to preserving the memories and history of those who served in the 388th Bomb Group touched the lives of countless veterans, families, and history enthusiasts. He was frequently consulted as a historical expert for television and film productions.

In 2015, Dick and his wife purchased The Rose Hotel in Tralee, Ireland, as a tribute to their late daughter, Dorothy. Under his vision, The Rose Hotel was transformed into a leading four-star hotel and became a cherished part of the Tralee community.

Dick was predeceased by his beloved daughters, Treasa and Dorothy, his parents, Col. Francis and Dorothy Henggeler, and his sisters-in-law, Kathy and Patsy. He is survived by his wife, Eibhlin, his son, Franz (Amber), and his cherished grandsons, Conrad and Rowan, as well as many loving family members and friends in the United States and Ireland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dick’s memory to Freedom Alliance or the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.
