Richard Williams, Jr. Obituary

Richard H. Williams, Jr., known affectionately as Rich, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025, in Ellicott City, MD, after a valiant battle with esophageal cancer. Born on August 27, 1960, in Cleveland, Ohio, Rich brought light and wisdom into the lives of all who knew him.

Rich was a proud alumnus of Case Western Reserve University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. His passion for the field led him to further his education at Johns Hopkins University, obtaining a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. Rich dedicated 42 years to a distinguished career with Northrop Grumman, Data Direct Networks, and Westinghouse, specializing in digital design engineering. His innovative work was recognized as a co-inventor in a patent for data management architecture, a testament to his intelligence and creativity. Rich's dedication to his profession was matched only by his commitment to his colleagues, with whom he shared not only his vast knowledge but also his genuine camaraderie.

Beyond his professional achievements, Rich was a devoted, faith-filled family man, who took comfort in God’s plan for him. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years and best friend, Stephanie, and their two daughters, Bridget and Megan, who were the light of his life. Rich’s priority was always his family and he was a constant, caring, and supportive presence in their lives. Rich's mother, Sonia, will cherish the memories of her son's kind heart, as will his extended family, including his mother-in-law, sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and first and second cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Williams, Sr., whose legacy continued through Rich's own life of integrity and dedication.

Rich's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. He made a lasting impact as a basketball and soccer coach for his daughters' teams, instilling values of teamwork and perseverance. His love for golf, long-distance running, and the outdoors provided him with many joyful moments with family and friends. A life-long animal lover, Rich’s pets, Bailey, Simba, and Olive, brought happiness and companionship to his daily life. An avid reader, Rich's thirst for knowledge was unquenchable, and he was a true history buff, always eager to learn more about the world's past.

Those who knew Rich will remember him as a man of many talents and a heart full of generosity. His thoughtful nature made him a cherished friend and confidant, always ready to offer a listening ear or a word of advice. His courage in the face of adversity was an inspiration to all, and his intelligence was matched only by his humility.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Rich's presence will be sorely missed, yet the memories he created will be cherished forever.
