Robert P. Lowell, affectionately known as Bob to his friends and family, was a beacon of strength and integrity whose life journey concluded on November 7, 2025, in Catonsville, MD. Born on October 31, 1946, in the quaint town of Keene, NH, to the late Kathleen W. Hobel and Robert A. Lowell, Bob's life was one marked by dedication, love, and an unwavering commitment to justice.
Bob's life was a testament to the power of education and the pursuit of knowledge. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from Syracuse University in 1968, he went on to earn his Juris Doctor from SUNY Buffalo School of Law in 1971 and completed his educational journey with a Masters in Law from Georgetown University in 1975. His pursuit of education was not just for personal gain but was the foundation upon which he built a career of service to others.
In his professional life, Bob served his community and his country with distinction. Starting as a part-time police officer in his hometown, he quickly realized his passion for law and justice. He went on to become a civilian attorney and administrative judge, touching the lives of many with his fair and balanced approach. As a Senior Attorney for the Office of Federal Operations at the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and later as an Attorney for the US Department of Justice, Bob upheld the rights of citizens with a steadfast commitment to equality and fairness until his well-deserved retirement.
A proud veteran, Bob also served his country in the U.S. Army in a number of assignments and roles and was deployed to Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War from 1990-1991. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal along with many other military awards and decorations throughout his time of service. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as a Colonel in 1999.
Bob's Catholic faith was the cornerstone of his character, guiding him through life's challenges with grace and humility. His love for his family was unwavering, and he found his greatest joy in the company of loved ones. Bob's family was the heart of his world, and the love they shared was palpable to all who knew them.
