Robert Ludicke, MD Obituary

Dr. Robert Ernest Ludicke, psychiatrist, age 86, passed away the morning of November 3, 2021. A man of great intellect, spirituality, and family devotion, “Bob” was born on June 7, 1935 in Catonsville, Maryland. As a young man, Bob aspired to help others by becoming a medical doctor. After graduating from Calvert Hall College High School, Mount St. Mary’s College, and University of Maryland Medical School, he completed his psychiatric residency at Seton Psychiatric Hospital. Immediately following his residency, Dr. Ludicke was drafted into the United States Army as Captain of the Southern Command Medical Unit during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Panama from 1963-1967.

In 1967, Dr. Ludicke established the first private psychiatric practice in Howard County, Maryland. While operating his private practice for over 50 years, he was also a psychiatric staff member at Howard County General Hospital, St. Agnes Hospital, and Montgomery General Hospital. In addition, Dr. Ludicke was the medical examiner for Howard County, a consultant to the National Security Agency, Vice President of the House of the Good Shepherd, psychiatric counsel to the seminarians and students at Mount St. Mary’s University, and provided counsel to several other juvenile organizations.

Bob was a devout Catholic and attended Mass weekly with his wife and family. Listening to classical music, reading, cooking, gardening, swimming, and enjoying sunny days sailing on the Chesapeake Bay were a few of his many passions. Bob was happiest when he was with his entire family, especially his 10 grandchildren. Devoted husband to Rachelle Duvall Ludicke for 61 years, they enjoyed a life together filled with joy, laughter, and love for their family. Devoted father of Robert Ernest Ludicke, II. (Allison), Theodore F. Ludicke (Sharon), Jennifer L. Minnis (David), and Kristin D. Dapp (Timothy); loving grandfather of Elizabeth, Rachel, Emma, Theodore F. Jr., Catherine, Alexander, Jacob, Evelyn, Sara, and Jacqueline; dear brother of Ann Sharp and Doris Ludicke; also survived by many loving family and friends.
