Robert Edmund Sims of Ellicott City, MD was born on Nov. 1, 1945 in Casper Wyoming, and died suddenly on April 13 in the early morning. He is predeceased by his parents, Ethel Irene Scritchfield and Frederick Sims, and two brothers, Thomas Sims and William Sims. He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Jane Chewning Starke Sims and two daughters: Lauren Page Smith (Timothy) of St Augustine, FL, and Robin Elizabeth Forte (Adam) of Elkridge, MD, as well as four grandchildren: Lane Gladstone Smith and Calleigh Jane Smith of St. Augustine and Brooks Robert Forte and Lillian Maryellen Forte of Elkridge.
He received his bachelor’s degree from U. of Wyoming and did postgraduate work in the Washington, D.C. area. He served in the Army and was stationed at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. As a civilian, he continued working there for his career as the head of a lab, supporting research.
His passions were his family, his love of animals, genealogy, gardening, travel, and spending as much time as he could outdoors in nature.
