Robert “Bob” J. Giglio, Sr. was born on February 20, 1934, in Baltimore, Maryland. Bob was a graduate of Forest Park and Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, and then worked for Westinghouse Corporation. In 1956, he was called into the U.S. Army, where he eventually attained the rank of supply sergeant, and was stationed in Germany. He finished his military service in the U.S. Army Reserve, being honorably discharged on August 20, 1962.
Bob attended barber school, and in 1958 he began helping his father at Joe’s Barber Shop in Linthicum Heights, Maryland on weeknights and Saturdays. In 1964, due to his father’s failing health, Bob stepped in full-time. The business expanded until, in 1967, it opened in a new larger space in the same building and became “Bob’s Barber Shop,” where it has remained a local landmark for 50+ years. While working as a barber, Bob also became a real estate agent and was awarded “Million Dollar Salesman” his first year. In June 2003, Bob sold his barber shop business but continued to work part-time until age 80, when he officially retired despite the objections of his long-faithful customers.
Bob loved antique cars, good food (especially seafood and southern Italian cuisine), his hometown sports teams (Orioles, Baltimore Colts, and the Ravens), travelling (especially trips to the beach), and spending time with family and friends. Bob was a devoted family man. He was the beloved husband of Barbara M. Giglio, and loving father to Robert J. Giglio, Jr., and his wife Cindy. Bob died peacefully at home on October 25, 2023, with his family present.
Family will receive friends at the Harry H. Witzke’s Family Funeral Home, 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 2 – 6 p.m.; where services will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 11 a.m. Interment following at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens.
