Robert "Bob" Saffle Obituary

Robert "Bob" Eugene Saffle, husband of Donna Marie, passed away at home Tuesday, August 2, 2022. 

Bob was born September 24, 1941, in Waco, Texas to Charles and Lucille Anderson Saffle. He received his bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Baylor University in 1963 and studied Meteorology at Texas A&M in 1965. Bob served four years in the United States Air Force, including 14 months in Vietnam, leaving the military with the rank of second lieutenant. In 1968 he started working for the National Weather Service (NOAA) for over four decades in Silver Spring, Maryland. On May 12, 1973, he married Donna Marie Hatch. They raised two children, Michael Scott and Jennifer Marie. 

Bob was preceded in death by his father, Charles, his mother, Lucille, his brothers Charles and Tom. He is survived by his wife Donna, his two children, Michael and his wife Nohora, and Jennifer and her husband Morgan, his brothers Jack and Richard, and his five grandchildren, Anna, Isla, Samuel, Logan and Eddie. 

Bob was an avid sport enthusiast excelling at bowling, softball, golf and darts. He built lifelong friendships through his participation in adult sports leagues.  This passion for sports has been passed on to his children and grandchildren though not his fandom for the Dallas Cowboys.  

Family will receive friends at the Harry H. Witzke Family Funeral Home, 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, on Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 12 noon – 2pm; where a service will be held beginning at 2pm. Interment services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maryland School for the Blind.
