Samuel Chairs, Jr. Obituary

Samuel Walker Chairs, Jr. of Ellicott City, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at the age of 91. He is survived by his children Pamella J.; Samuel W. III (Denise); Ann P. “Tammy” (Joe Johnson); Timothy J. Sr. (Leslie); Teresa L. (Jerry O’Neill); Todd A. (Annemarie); Thomas M. Sr. (Mary); his sisters Mary A. Chairs and Kathryn Chairs; twenty grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Samuel W. Chairs and Genevieve (Mulcahy) Chairs; his beloved wife of 45 years, Patricia A. (Foster) Chairs; his brothers Joseph and John; and a great-grandson Thomas Broderick, Jr.

Sam was a devoted family man and cherished his time with his children and grandchildren. He was a graduate of Calvert Hall College High School and the University of Baltimore where he earned a degree in accounting. He had a distinguished 70-year career in business, proudly spending the last 38 years working alongside his sons. He also spent 3 years in the US Army where he specialized as a cryptologist (code breaker). Sam was an avid sports fan, especially of the Ravens and the Orioles. His passion was philanthropic good works, establishing ten family funds to benefit the Archdiocese of Baltimore. He touched the lives of all that knew him and will continue to do so even in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sam’s memory to The Samuel and Patricia Chairs Family Fund at https://ccfmd.org (Catholic Community Foundation; Archdiocese of Baltimore, 320 Cathedral Street, Baltimore, MD 21201).
