Serena Marie Moore, 84, passed away peacefully following a long battle with dementia on April 17, 2025. She was born on June 14, 1940 in Kellogg, ID, the daughter of the late Rev. John Hopp and Margaret Hopp. She was predeceased by her former husband, Robert Moore, and her brother, Peter Hopp. Serena is survived by her children, Kirsten (Jeff) and Ivan (Amy), and her grandchildren, Preston, Olivia, Max and Luke. She is also survived by her beloved siblings Paul Hopp (late Meiko), James Hopp (Irene), and Carol Hunt (Eugene).
She was a graduate of Bothell High School and Pacific Lutheran University. A dedicated educator, Serena spent many years as an elementary and music teacher at Our Saviour’s School in Forestville, MD. Music was her true passion, and she served as an organist and choir director at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Temple Hills, MD, Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Alexandria, VA, and Oxon Hill Lutheran Church. She also cherished her role as accompanist for the Maryland Choral Society for many years.
For the last nine years of her life, Serena found joy and community at living at Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant and became an active member at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ellicott City, MD. Serena’s love for music, beautiful smile, her kindness, and her unwavering commitment to others will be deeply missed.
A visitation will be held at 10:00am, followed by a memorial service at 11:00am on Saturday, June 7th, at First Lutheran Church, 3604 Chatham Rd, Ellicott City, MD. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Serena's honor to Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant Mission Possible Capital Campaign to build the Performing Arts Center/Chapel, the Alzheimer's Association, or the Maryland Choral Society.
