Sonja E. Vacek, affectionately known as "Sunny" for her personality and ever-present smile, passed away on December 10, 2024, at the age of 77.
Born on April 15, 1947, in Orlando, FL, Sunny was witty, outspoken, and could lighten up a room at times. She departed this world in Ellicott City, MD, suddenly.
Sunny's journey led her to a loving marriage with her late husband, Frank Vacek Jr., with whom she built a life rich in love, laughter, and entertaining bickering. Together, they raised a family of five children: Joyce Lilly, Debra Shumate, William Vacek, David Vacek, and Frankie Vacek III.
Sunny's legacy further blossomed with the joy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom she cherished deeply.
In her professional life, Sunny began her career at UPS, where she was known for her hard work and dedication. She later worked in the school system. She belonged to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Sunny's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. She enjoyed working train shows with Frank, and all of the friends they made. Crafting was another of Sunny's interest. Her love for dogs was undeniable; she found great joy and companionship in her furry friends, who were always by her side.
Those who knew Sunny would describe her as funny, spirited, sarcastic and selfless. Her humor was a gift that she gave freely, brightening the days of all around her. Her spirited nature was evident in her lively conversations and her enthusiasm for life's simple pleasures. Sunny's selflessness shone through in her every action, always putting the needs of others before her own.
Sunny's absence will be deeply felt by her sister, Melody Fetik, who shared a special bond with her throughout their lives. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will continue to honor her memory by living their lives to the fullest. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her, but her spirit will continue to inspire laughter, love, and kindness.
As the sun sets on Sunny's time with us, we remember her not with sadness but with a celebration of the light she brought into this world. Her laughter, her generosity, and her positive spirit will be the legacy that endures. Sunny's life was a journey of joy, caring, and an unrelenting zest for life that will be remembered by all who walked the path with her.
We bid farewell to Sonja "Sunny" E. Vacek, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. May her journey onward be as bright and joyful as the life she led among us. Sunny's memory will forever remain in our hearts, a never-fading light guiding us through the days ahead.
