Sue was born on January 3, 1945 to Dora and Maurice Green in St. Albans, England after being
evacuated there during the war. Her father Maurice Green was stationed in Iceland at the time of
her birth. She grew up in Battersea, England with her parents and two sisters with dreams of
becoming a hairdresser and a tap dancer. Pauline and Sue were sisters who could often be found
enjoying the dance halls of Battersea. After finishing school in England, she went on to work in
a department store on Buckingham Palace Road in the accounts department. Soon after, in 1960,
she met her future husband, Mick while at the pub with her life long friend, Brenda Anscombe.
Mick and Sue got married in 1963 and welcomed their first child and only son, Sean in 1964.
Their first daughter, Gabrielle was born in early 1966 followed by the unexpected and untimely
death of their son Sean in late 1966. Their second daughter Paula was born in 1967 and their
third daughter Joanne was born in 1972.
Sue spent her time raising her children and supporting her family and Mick’s career as they
relocated often to locations in Africa, the United States and England. Once settled in the United
States, she spent many years in a career with WinterGrowth Senior Center in Columbia,
Maryland. She enjoyed her work with seniors as an Activities Director. Eventually she retired
and enjoyed many years helping to raise her seven grandchildren.
She enjoyed the beach and the pool very much. She spent many summer days basking in the
sunshine with her family and friends. She also enjoyed the love of retail therapy and her beloved
store Nordstroms. She loved to travel, especially back to her home country of England. She
enjoyed visiting her favorite destinations such as Captiva Island and Carmel, California.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Christchurch Bexleyheath Cemetery
