Susan Elaine Phillips

Susan Elaine Phillips (Susie), 63, passed away on Sunday September 17th, 2023, surrounded by her family.  Susie was born on February 12, 1960 to Henry Wadsworth Wehland and Bettie Virginia Wehland in Riverdale, Maryland.  After graduating from Atholton High School in 1978 she went on to work for the Department of Defense for over 38 years before retiring.  Susie loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.  She enjoyed cooking, shopping, cheering on the sports sidelines, and many family holiday traditions.  Susie’s door was always open and many looked to her as a motherly figure.  She was selfless, kind, and humble.  

She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Samuel Edward Phillips, son William Edward Dean Rakestraw, and daughter in-law Katie Rakestraw, son Jeremy Smith Rakestraw and daughter in-law Trisha Rakestraw, step-son Samuel Edward Phillips Jr, sister Marissa Joan Miller and husband Barry Miller, and brother Frederick Charles Wehland and wife Molly Wehland.  She is also survived by 6 grandchildren Amelia, Gavin, Hailey, Josie, Laney, and Noah and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.  Susie is preceded in death by her parents, step-daughter Sarah Patricia Phillips, and her beloved Toby.
